Mr. Clean
#479 (Rotom-Wash) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Discharge
- Hydro Pump
- Shadow Ball

Aye! Go, #479! That's right! It's Mr. Clean aka Rotom-W. To check/counter Ceruledge, I decided to choose Rotom-W. First off, Rotom-W's Electric/Water typing allows it to ALMOST completely wall Ceruledge's Fire/Ghost typing, while also providing offensive coverage for whether Ceruledge has it's base Fire/Ghost typing or if Ceruledge decides to Tera Type Flying. For Rotom-W's item, I chose Choice Scarf (being that Choice Scarf pairs well with Rotom-W's Timid Nature, and will allow it to COMFORTABLY outspeed Jolly Nature Ceruledge). For Rotom-W's Tera Type, I chose Ghost (taking into consideration OTHER meta threats like Gholdengo [although Ghost type is, noticeably, unresisted, so Shadow Ball can do x1.5 STAB neutral damage to most targets; bringing them within OHKO range]). For Rotom-W's EVs, I went for a based 4/252/252 spead; nothing special, really. For Rotom-W's moves, I chose Volt Switch for pivot, Discharge to SPECIFICALLY counter Ceruledge's Tera Type Flying and for paralysis, Hydro Pump to SPECIFICALLY counter Ceruledge's Water typing, and Shadow Ball to SPECIFICALLY counter Ceruledge's Ghost typing.

I thought we were avoiding Tera slashes on the victim of the week?
Yeah, this. The counters are slightly dependant on the tera. And also, only one of those tera options are good on the mon so its fine lol. Just try to send something that beats both (as most counters do).

:clefable:
Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Thunder Wave
- Wish
- Protect
- Knock Off

clefable is a counter to ceruledge. Its pure Fairy typing and Unaware allows it to wall Ceruledge's coverage very well. ceruledge does relatively little with its stabs and its only common coverage, close combat, to a standard fully defensive clefable:

252 Atk Ceruledge Poltergeist vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Clefable: 153-181 (38.8 - 45.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Ceruledge Bitter Blade vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Clefable: 127-150 (32.2 - 38%) -- 1.3% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Ceruledge Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Clefable: 56-66 (14.2 - 16.7%) -- possible 9HKO after Leftovers recovery

clef can also 3hko back with knock off:

0 Atk Unaware Clefable Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Ceruledge: 126-150 (43.2 - 51.5%) -- 7.4% chance to 2HKO
0 Atk Unaware Clefable Knock Off vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Ceruledge: 86-102 (29.5 - 35%) -- 8.6% chance to 3HKO

clefable, quite famously, is very good at wishpassing, and, crits forgiving, it can survive for at least 32 turns against ceruledge. this combined with leftovers allows it opportunites to cripple it with twave and then ko/cripple it with knock off. it would have an issue with switching in multiple times, but thankfully, once ceruledge is knocked and/or twaved, it's pretty much out of the game. clef is able to fulfill its usual role as a wishpassing utility mon for balance, but twave and unaware are used over rocks and magic guard so it can better wall sweepers.

Grassy Seed Sinistcha is my submission.

Bo's Special Tea (Sinistcha-Masterpiece) @Grassy Seed
Ability: Heatproof
Tera Type: Poison
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Matcha Gotcha
- Shadow Ball
- Strength Sap

I'm putting it in as a counter. Boil your Grassy Seed, stir some tea, since it does practically nothing to you. You don't even need to Tera if you catch it early, you burn your Seed (if you don't have anything on you, that works too) making you immune to Polt, and you literally heal from it. Crits are a thing, don't get cocky.

You can literally use Ceruledge as set up. The only "issue" is that you may have wanted to do some team softening to your opponent before revealing your bitter Tea all over, but that's life.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that sinistcha doesn't beat ceruledge like you think it does...you're giving it two free turns to set up/kill your terrain setter all for them to either switch out and beat you next time or just power through you at +4. Sure, it works if everything is perfect but in most of, if not all cases this set would just lose anyways.

Getting the seed up is simple with how often Rillaboom is used, without an item you can out heal its offense, Sinistcha is a prime candidate for Tera to begin with, removing the ghost weakness, resisting Bitter Blade, and even without the boost (but losing the seed) you'll survive quite comfortably at +3 after you tera. You have Strength Sap, and can 2 shot it. ldeal circumstances would have you at +1 Def, Sp.Atk & Sp.Def.

If you force it to switch, well, good? If you've tera'd Cha, you shouldn't really fear any return trips, as without the boost yit shouldn't get past +2

Toxapex @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 252 HP / 192 Def / 64 SpD

Standard pex, only a check cuz it actually get 2HKOed by SD poltergeist. However threatening toxic is usually good enough against offensive pokemon, and the ability to do so can be good. Surf do about 40% too so in some case you can straight up knock it out in some mu too.

With that out of the way, its time for our next Victim of the Week... Maushold!

:sv/maushold:
Maushold @ Wide Lens
Ability: Technician
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Tidy Up
- Population Bomb
- Encore
- Bite

With its good Speed and effectively 300 base power STAB move in Population Bomb, Maushold is able to check the likes of Ogerpon-W, Manaphy, Iron Moth, Walking Wake, while being rather hard to switch into without a resist as even insanely bulky Pokemon like Alomomola and Dondozo get 2HKOed. The combination of Encore and Tera Ghost allows it to bait in attacks such as Zamazenta's, Corviknight's and Dondozo's Body Press and use them as fodder. Bite rounds out Maushold's coverage, providing it with a move to hit Gholdengo and Dragapult.

Submissions end on Wednesday October 22nd at 23:59 EST
You may submit up to 1 check and up to 1 counter. Please specify if your submission is a check or a counter

CHECK

:sm/scizor:
Scizor @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 236 HP / 252 Atk / 20 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- Close Combat
- Knock Off
- U-turn

Scizor's Bullet Punch hits like a truck and wins if it doesn't switch in on anything, but if Maus hasn't boosted up more than once you can hard switch in since Scizor can take a 10-hit Population Bomb without risking a KO. With Tera Steel BP OHKOs cleanly, and since BP is also of course a priority move it also means it doesn't matter how many boosts Maus gets, you hit it first so Scizor can also revenge very easily. Without Tera BP clean 2HKOs but it's still fine if you get in free since you're still only taking one hit.

252 Atk Technician Maushold Population Bomb (10 hits) vs. 236 HP / 0 Def Scizor: 170-210 (50 - 61.7%) -- approx. 2HKO
+1 252 Atk Technician Maushold Population Bomb (10 hits) vs. 236 HP / 0 Def Scizor: 250-300 (73.5 - 88.2%) -- approx. 2HKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Technician Scizor Bullet Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Maushold: 217-256 (75 - 88.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Technician Tera Steel Scizor Bullet Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Maushold: 290-342 (100.3 - 118.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

counter-Dies to rocky helmet, heals off any damage and kills it back with ease

Kingambit @ Black Glasses
Ability: Supreme Overlord
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Tera Type: Dark
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Sucker Punch
- Kowtow Cleave
- Iron Head

Kingambit is a check. It resists both Population Bomb and Bite, allowing it to switch in on Maushold somewhat more comfortably than most, although it still has trouble with boosted Population Bombs. If Kingambit gets in, Maushold is in a fairly uncomfortable situation -- Sucker Punch is obviously a threat, especially if Kingambit can Tera or Maushold has done so beforehand, but if Maushold goes for Encore or Tidy Up instead, it risks getting blown up by Kowtow Cleave instead.

Ceruledge @ Focus Sash
Ability: Weak Armor
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Bitter Blade
- Poltergeist
- Shadow Sneak

Ceruledge is a check to Maushold, its Ghost-type makes it immune to Population Bomb, and its Focus Sash allows it to tank one Bite and retaliate with a Bitter Blade, as well as activating its Weak Armor, letting it outspeed Maus the turn after.
Because Tidy Up clears hazards, Ceruledge's Sash will stay intact, and even if Maushold decides to not Tidy Up to keep Rocks on the field, it'll still not be able to kill it.
And Ceruledge's access to Shadow Sneak can prove useful if Maushold ever decides to use its Ghost Tera.

Maushold not being to kill Ceruledge if it doesn't Tidy Up:
252 Atk Technician Maushold Bite vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Ceruledge: 166-196 (57 - 67.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Bitter Blade always 2HKOs Maus:
252 Atk Ceruledge Bitter Blade vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Maushold: 192-226 (66.4 - 78.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Shadow Sneak always 2HKOs Tera Ghost Maus (dodging a potential Bite flinch and Poltergeist miss):
252 Atk Ceruledge Shadow Sneak vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tera Ghost Maushold: 170-204 (58.8 - 70.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Ability: Unaware
Tera Type: Dragon
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Waterfall
- Body Press
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

Unaware removes tidy up boosts to take as little damage as possible while Maushold gets OHKOd by Rocky Helmet.

252 Atk Technician Maushold Population Bomb (6 hits) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Dondozo: 135-159 (26.7 - 31.5%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

Used 180 BP facade to calc popbomb because Maushold dies after 6 hits, not 10

Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 252 HP / 12 Def / 244 SpA
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Magma Storm
- Earth Power
- Overheat
- Stealth Rock

Heatran's Steel type and bulk allows it to survive two Population Bombs (or one +2 Population Bomb), even in the unlikely event that Maushold avoids getting burned by Flame Body, and it can OHKO in return with Overheat.

252 Atk Technician Maushold Population Bomb (10 hits) vs. 252 HP / 12 Def Heatran: 160-190 (41.4 - 49.2%) -- approx. 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
+2 252 Atk Technician Maushold Population Bomb (10 hits) vs. 252 HP / 12 Def Heatran: 320-380 (82.9 - 98.4%) -- approx. 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

244+ SpA Heatran Overheat vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Maushold: 292-345 (101 - 119.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Maushold messed with the wrong Ogerpon today. Tera Ghost won't save it from a Power Whip OHKO.

252 Atk Technician Maushold Population Bomb (10 hits) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Ogerpon-Cornerstone: 200-240 (66.4 - 79.7%) -- approx. 2HKO
252 Atk Technician Maushold Bite vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Ogerpon-Cornerstone: 79-94 (26.2 - 31.2%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
252 Atk Cornerstone Mask Ogerpon-Cornerstone Power Whip vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Maushold: 297-351 (102.7 - 121.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 Atk Cornerstone Mask Ogerpon-Cornerstone Low Kick (20 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Maushold: 68-80 (23.5 - 27.6%) -- 69.6% chance to 4HKO

Gholdengo is pretty much the only wall (well, tank wall) in OU that Encore doesn't work on, ensuring you can switch in, Nasty Plot, and OHKO with +2 Make It Rain regardless of whether Maushold tries to lock you into a move you'd rather not use twice in a row.

252 Atk Technician Maushold Bite vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Gholdengo: 102-122 (26.9 - 32.2%) -- 51.5% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
